September sees two events not to be missed from Summerstown 182, the Summerstown based group that explores the local history of the First World War.
‘Far from the Western Front’ launch event 5.30pm on 6th September at St George’s Hospital Library
The landmark exhibition ‘Far from the Western Front’ tells the story of the million plus soldiers from the Indian sub-continent who fought in the First World War. It’s a forgotten side of WW1 but this exhibition brings it to life. All are welcome at the launch event at 5.30pm on 6th September in the St George’s Hospital Library, First floor, Hunter Wing.
Summerstown Celebration 2pm on 16th September
The Celebration centres on unveiling a plaque to commemorate Robert Sadler, the Summerstown man who played a big part in establishing athletics locally in the 1850s. But there’s lots more too including showcasing the work done recently with local schools and hands on activities. See poster attached for details.
