‘FOREVER FISHPONDS: RE-IMAGINING GREEN SPACE IN THE HEART OF TOOTING’
Come and share ideas for using Fishponds Playing Fields
2-4pm Sunday 12th January
The Chapel Vestry (Left), Streatham Cemetery,Garratt Lane SW17 0LT
Lucy Neal and Hilary Jennings invite you join them on Sunday January 12th at 2pm to pool ideas on using Fishponds Playing Fields in future. This is an opportunity to meet groups and individuals who want to get the best out of the Fishponds fields for the whole community.
Lucy and Hilary write:
Fishponds ‘fields’ off Hebdon Road, SW17 – an area of several acres – has a history stretching back as Tooting’s open green space. Once a medieval moat system, the Fields later provided water features for notable manor houses until becoming part of Rollison’s ‘Tooting Nursery’ in the 18th century.
Currently in use as a playing field for football and cricket it is now newly accessible to the public when in use, with children’s play equipment. It has also been used occasionally for one-off large community events.
Wandsworth Council have run two consultations – the latest ended on Dec 2nd 2019 – inviting local people to contribute to a re-imagining of the Fields – and ‘how you enjoy this space’ – with a view to inviting groups to maintain and manage the fields.
The meeting on Jan 12th can help to pool ideas for the future, along with gauging local groups’ willingness to engage with proposals as the Council’s timelines for decision-making become clearer.
If you have an interest in Tooting being more open, greener and healthier, come along. All welcome. Let’s meet!
