Fishponds Playing Fields open every day

Fishponds Playing Fields open every day
            8am-6pm 18th July to 6th September
                    Hebdon Road SW17 7NW
It’s great news that Fishponds Playing Fields in Hebdon Road will be open to the public every day this summer from 8am to 6pm. This will give a much needed new area of green space in a part of Tooting that severely lacks it. There will be new play equipment with a natural timber look. Access will run from 18th July to 6thSeptember.

For full details see the WBC press notice at https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/news/july-2020/tooting-residents-can-enjoy-another-green-space-with-play-equipment-this-summer/

Thanks go to the Council, and to our Tooting Ward councillors, Annamarie Critchard, James Daley and Paul White, who have kept up the pressure to open the fields for wider community use, together with our MP, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan.

More information:

  • The play equipment is suitable for children aged between 2 and 11 and includes a climbing tower with slide, a play boat and an activity trail with a ‘wobble log’ bridge, stepping stones, parallel bars and a balance beam. It’s made from recycled plastics and has a natural timber look.
  • Dogs are not permitted on the playing fields at any time.
  • Outside the hours above, the playing fields will remain locked

What next for Fishponds?

This arrangement is for this summer only. It’s a welcome step but we need to build on it.

Community voices are calling to make Fishponds accessible for the long term for a wide range of leisure, play and sustainability uses. The group ‘Forever Fishponds’, which coordinates many community bodies in support of this aim, has set out its vision for the fields in a document ‘Reimagining Fishponds’.  This has BATCA’s full support.

We hope you’ll make active use of the fields during the summer, and show how much it matters for individuals and families to have green space close at hand. As we go forward, community support will be vitally important.

Please spread the word.
