Black Lives Matter Wandsworth is restarting its regular Sunday gatherings at 12.30 for 1pm on Tooting Common (near Tooting Lido) this Sunday, August 23rd. These are positive, inclusive occasions at which everyone is welcome. People sit several yards apart on the grass, so social distancing is fully observed.
There’s an interesting mix of items each time, including 5-10 minute talks on a wide range of subjects, as well as live music, poetry and personal reflections.
The top item this Sunday is a musical theatre piece performance by Ako Mitchell @akomitchell. Ako is a multi-talented actor & film maker who has been cast in #thelionking #ragtimethemusical #thecolourpurple #guysanddolls to name a few.
The talks I’ve heard, always topical and stimulating, have illuminated black experience in a wide range of areas, and brought insights into ways specific injustices can be tackled. It’s not just about politics – a sense of fun and entertainment make it an enjoyable as well as inspiring afternoon. The whole thing lasts just over an hour.
