BATCA Community Awards 2024

The 2024 Community Awards evening has now sold out!

The Awards aim to recognise everyday people who do valuable work to serve our community.

This year’s event is on Tuesday 5 March, 7-9.30pm at the Memon Centre, 3 Wier Road, London SW12 0LT.

The awards will take place at a gala evening, with live entertainment from quartet Fuzion Four and a curry supper included, as well as the presentation of the awards by our VIP guests.

All of those nominated will be celebrated alongside the presentation of our six main awards for teams and individuals in the three categories: arts and culture; promoting social inclusion and fighting poverty; and general.

We are grateful to sponsors Enable, Howden Insurance and Islamic Relief for their generous support for the event. This has allowed us to keep tickets to £10.

We look forward to seeing you on 5 March!

This year there will be three categories: Arts and Culture, Promoting Social Inclusion and Fighting Poverty and Generalnominations, covering all other fields of activity.

  1. Arts and culture

People or organisations that are active in the arts and culture for the benefit of the community

Includes: developing skills and giving opportunities, for example children’s dance or drama class; involving people with learning disabilities in creative art; bringing local history or culture alive; working to create arts spaces and festivals; fostering young talent; community music; encouraging creative writing.

  1. Promoting Social Inclusion and Fighting Poverty

Activities that help those impacted by the cost of living crisis or who face social exclusion.

For example: community advisory services or food banks or homeless drop-in; giving quiet support to frail or housebound neighbours; helping disabled people take part in activities they would otherwise be unable to access.

  1. General

Any activity involving service to others that doesn’t fall into the categories above.

For example: simple sustained acts of kindness that don’t fit the special categories; strengthening our community through reaching out to/bringing together people from diverse walks of life; boosting others’ life chances by passing on skills e.g. cooking, crafts.

Please note these examples are not exhaustive – just a few illustrations. The grouping of nominations and final award categories are at the discretion of the judging panel and may be subject to change.

  • People of all ages and backgrounds are eligible, with awards for teams and individuals
  • Nominations will be assessed by a panel of independent judges
  • Any field of activity counts, including helping neighbours, or being a dedicated member of a community group or faith body
  • Sustained effort that makes a real difference to others’ lives is key
  • Although primarily for volunteers, heroes in the workplace can also be nominated
  • Previous award recipients include those supporting refugees and the elderly, community gardeners, shopkeepers looking after their neighbours, community artists, advocates for women’s rights, heroic fundraisers for good causes…so nominate your own hero today!
